You’ve probably attended a hundred sessions on “goal
setting” – and that’s just this week!
I find
setting targets easy. For me it comes down to a few very simple questions:
1)
What would I like to achieve in the next 5 to 10
years?
2)
What would I like to achieve in the 3 to 5
years?
3)
What would I like to achieve in the next 2 to 3
years?
4)
What would I like to achieve in the next 12 months?
5)
What would I like to achieve in the next month?
6)
What would I like to achieve in the next week?
You could keep it as simple as that. Alternatively, you could become even more focused by asking those questions in each of the 6 following categories:
1)
My spheres of influence;
2)
Health;
3)
Security;
4)
Personal;
5)
Family;
6)
My business.
Permit me to explain these.
Spheres of Influence: This area looks at those relationships we have in our lives and covers
all those people outside of our family, who we deal with on a day-to-day basis.
This could include our friends, associates, colleagues, bosses, authorities,
club members, etc.
Health This
area looks at our physical, mental and
emotional health..
Security: Security encompasses more than just the dollars we have in the bank. It
includes our career, our work, our possessions, security, values, needs and
wants..
Personal: This area addresses how we view our inner self. It includes such things
as our spiritual belief, our self-belief or self-esteem.
Family: This
heading covers those who are close to us and whom we would classify as family.
These may be parents, spouses, children or extremely close friends. Those we
share our most intimate times with.
My Business: I think this is self-evident.
Asking these questions gives you a balanced approach to
life. One where every area receives equal focus, not just toady, but for a
long, long time.
Now, we go back one post and after determining exactly what
it would cost to achieve the things you want in each of those timeframes and,
using the formula, calculate exactly what it is that you now need to do in
contacts, business plans, sponsored people, active business builders and
product turnover to make each of those dreams a reality.
Then it’s up to you. You either do it, apply the actions
needed, or you don’t.
It’s that simple! It’s a choice! And you are responsible for
the choices you make!
On a regular basis review your results and your required
actions. And just do it (or not)!
Ok, you may find you have to talk to more people than you
planned. Decide – do it or not!
You need to work harder than you thought you would inspiring
others to believe in themselves. Decide – do it or not!
You have to spend more hours each week actively working your
business. Decide – do it or not!
You have to attend a conference or ten or attend training
sessions. Decide – do it or not!
If you do it – great! If you don’t do it – great! It’s
simply your choice!
It’s all about choices. It’s all about responsibility. It’s
about commitment to a dream. Your dream.
